DENVER—Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs Tammy Duckworth is meeting with participants at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games in Denver.

Duckworth, a helicopter pilot in Iraq who lost both her legs in an attack, is visiting Thursday with children taking part in Kids Day and veterans at City Park. Joining her is Gene Crayton, also a combat veteran and national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America.

Nearly 600 veterans are competing in the national wheelchair games, the largest annual wheelchair sports competition in the world. Athletes include former servicemen and servicewomen who have served from World War II to Iraq and Afghanistan. Events include basketball, weightlifting track, rugby and softball.
