WHEAT RIDGE, Colo.—The man who served as Wheat Ridge’s first acting police chief, Jack W. Bramble, has died. He was 89.

The Wheat Ridge Police Department said Bramble died June 22. The department announced his dead Friday but did not release his cause of death.

Bramble was Wheat Ridge’s first acting police chief when the city incorporated in 1969 and held that post until a permanent chief was selected in 1970. Bramble also served on Wheat Ridge’s first City Council from 1969 to 1973.

Bramble was born in Kansas City, Mo. and grew up in Colorado. He served in the 106th Infantry during World War II in England and France.

Wheat Ridge police say as acting police chief, he patrolled the city’s first police car.
