A man was slashed late this morning at Senior Support Services, a facility that assists low-income and homeless seniors, according to Denver police.
Denver police spokesman Sonny Jackson said that an argument between two men escalated and that one of the individuals was slashed by a sharp object, possibly a box cutter.
Jackson said both men were in their 50s and apparently were clients of the shelter.
The suspect fled and has not been located. The victim is in stable condition, said Jackson.
Senior Support Systems, 846 E. 18th Ave., was established in 1976 by six churches in the downtown area that were concerned about the welfare of older, homeless seniors.
Clients can obtain meals, emergency food and clothing at the daytime shelter as well as access to medical care, health screenings and mental health care.
On a daily basis, the shelter serves breakfast to an average of 60 seniors, daily hot lunches to about 101 seniors and hot dinners to an average of 73 seniors.
Administrators at the shelter declined immediate comment.
