COLORADO SPRINGS — A fast storm moved through Colorado Springs on Tuesday evening, creating havoc in some places, with flooding ruining a newscast as well as dinner at an assisted-living facility.

A courtyard at the Winslow Court Assisted Living Center flooded, sending water pouring into the dining room, hallways and elevator shafts of the care facility at 3920 E. San Miguel St. Staff members worked to get about 100 people upstairs to their apartments, which were not affected, said Lt. Jeff Sievers, Colorado Springs Fire Department spokesman.

The southbound lanes of Interstate 25 were closed for about two hours after a car hydroplaned across the median and caused a five-car crash. A truck pulling a horse trailer jackknifed, but no one, including the two horses, was injured.

Fox 21 improvised through its 9 p.m. newscast, explaining how a flood at its studio, 560 Wooten Road, had damaged broadcast equipment. The news channel canceled its Wednesday morning show.
