A consulting firm is studying Buckley Air Force Base to discover any threat to base operations posed by development and other issues in the surrounding community. The review also seeks to determine any negative effects the base could have on its neighbors in Aurora and other surrounding communities.

The study will consider airborne noise; air and land space restrictions; air quality; clean water; cultural resources; endangered species habitat; urban growth; wetlands; unexploded ordinance and other issues.

“It is a road map of how we can work better with governmental agencies,” said John Spann, spokesman for the 460th Space Wing.

A similar study will be conducted at Patrick Air Force Base/Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Lessons learned in the two studies will be applied at bases throughout the country. Environmental consulting firm Marstel-Day is performing the studies.
