Unsatisfied with the information collected as part of a state review of whether a premium rate hike by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield was justified, state insurance officials Thursday demanded more data from the company, effectively delaying the analysis even longer than previously expected.

The Colorado Division of Insurance review began March 1 and was initially expected to take eight weeks.

Monday, The Denver Post outlined how investigators had additional questions, pushing the review back several weeks. Anthem has the right to appeal any final decision before findings are made public.

Thursday, state Insurance Commissioner Marcy Morrison indicated in a statement that state laws allow regulators to review profit- loss statements, corporate salaries and benefits. She said the new requests pushed a completion date back indefinitely.

Rate hikes that are being reviewed and were initiated Jan. 1 remain in effect until the analysis is completed.
