Paper Bird made a lot of new friends at last week’s 10th annual Denver Post Underground Music Showcase. And just in time: Tonight the harmony-happy Denver folk band, which boasts seven members, celebrates the release of its second album, “When the River Took Flight,” with a concert at the Gothic Theatre. Get there early for opening sets by the Beaten Sea and Denver’s Ian Cooke. 8 p.m. $10.
Jackson Browne the performer and Jackson Browne the songwriter are inextricable, but you may not always know it by the way they rise and fall in popularity. The laid-back California artist has been synonymous with such hits as “Running on Empty” and “Somebody’s Baby,” but younger generations are less apt to remember he’s also churned out songs for Linda Ronstadt, the Byrds, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Joan Baez and, most significantly, the Eagles. He plays Thursday at Red Rocks with David Lindley. $40.50-$76. Also worth checking out at Red Rocks: Lyle Lovett and His Large Band and Taj Mahal, playing today as part of eTown’s annual Green Rocks concert. 8 p.m. $34.50-$65.50.
