Hack hack!
Boulder, of all places, is about to host Colorado’s first Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival. About 1,700 rope smokers are expected to attend the hazy conference from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 29. The $100 tickets will get you in with a goodie bag that’ll include 20 top-shelf cigars (think Romeo y Julieta, Montecristo, Partagas) a lighter, cutter, T-shirt and 10 drink tickets.
And a band! That’s what I’m talking about!
Additionally, $25 “social” tickets are available for people who don’t want the cigars and other goodies.
The event will take place outside at the gardens at the Millennium Harvest House. Special guests include this unlikely trio: NFL Hall of Famer Randy “The Manster” White, “Sopranos” actor Joe “Vito Spatafore” Gannascoli, and Independence Institute boss Jon Caldara.
The smoke-in is modeled after The Big Smoke in NYC and Las Vegas and the recent CIGARfest in Philly, which drew more than 3,000 people.
“We’re hoping Boulder comes out and supports this,” says event organizer Emelia Allen. “Cigars are a luxury, more of a lifestyle than a habit.”
If it does well, the organizers hope to make the fest an annual Boulder habit. Get info and your tix at .
Live with Regis and Denise
All of a sudden, my mailbox is filled with letters about KOSI morning jock Denise Plante.
She is one of 100 finalists in the “Live with Regis and Kelly Women of Radio Co-Host for a Day Search.”
Also on the roster: Kathy Lee from KRFX in Denver and Sadie Koehler from KXBG and Loveland.
But it’s Plante who is jamming my gmail and Facebook, especially in a missive gone viral from her pal Denise Snyder of Mariel in Larimer Square.
Since Plante calls people turkey butt — here’s our cheer: “GO TURKEY BUTT!”
The best way to find the voting booth is to Google up “Regis and Kelly” and keep clicking your way through.
A different kind of wiggle
This report just in from intern Lynette Zilio: They’re not as outrageous as Lady Gaga, who had blood gushing out of her chest Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center, but the Wiggles promise acrobatics during their Aug. 4 stop at the Wells Fargo Theatre.
Red Wiggle Murray Cook
, a singer and guitarist for the four-man children’s singing group, said the tour is a cross between rock ‘n’ roll and a Broadway musical. “It’s a very interactive show to get the children involved,” he said. “There’s lots of dancing and lots of music.”
But, alas, no gushing blood a la Gaga. Tix @ Ticketmaster.
Where’s Charley?
Hal Moore and Charley Martin ruled Denver radio for 20 years on KHOW — and they’re back together 7 to 9 this morning on Crusin’ Oldies 950 AM. Hal is on every day, Charley is visiting from Phoenix and is in the house. Oldies from the oldies!
