A National Guard helicopter rescued an injured hiker late Wednesday southwest of the East Portal of the Moffat Tunnel.
The Colorado National Guard was called about 9:30 p.m. after a helicopter sent by the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office was unable to reach Steve Lassman, 61, of Boulder because of heavy rains, winds and darkness.
The Black Hawk helicopter and its crew used night-vision equipment to find Lassman. He was disoriented and suffering from a broken leg and hypothermia. Adam Singleton, The Denver Post
