Colorado Rush wins title in Sweden.
It took the Colorado Rush girls under-14 team awhile to find some competition in the prestigious Gothia Cup in Sweden, but the Rush finally got it in the championship match.
Playing “up” in the U-15 category, the Rush girls outscored opponents 47-0 in nine games preceding the final. Their finals foe, Boo FF of Sweden, had a 35-1 edge in its preceding games. The Rush girls won 3-2 on Saturday with Brittney Stark scoring a hat trick.
“That was just awesome,” said Stark, who will be a freshman at Broomfield High School this fall. “There’s nothing better than helping your team reach its goal.”
The Gothia Cup is billed as a World Youth Cup. More than 1,500 teams from 71 nations competed in six girls age categories and eight for boys. The win is considered one of the program’s greatest achievements.
“It was amazing,” Stark said. “I could just tell that our team, all our hard work had paid off. It was just unbelievable.” John Meyer, The Denver Post
