Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man suspected of assaulting a woman and breaking her ankle in a car-jacking attempt.

On June 26 in the 5500 block of East Colfax Avenue a man attacked a woman from behind as she was getting into her car, the Denver Police Department said in a media release.

The man “shoved what appeared to be a gun” in the victim’s back, demanded her car keys and knocked her to the ground, holding her there.

The woman screamed and the assailant fled on foot. The victim suffered a broken ankle in the incident.

The Denver Police Department today identified the suspect as Joe Andrew Jorgenson.

Anyone with information on the crime, or on the whereabouts of the suspect, is asked to call Denver police at 720 913-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 720 913-STOP (7867). Tips can also be e-mailed to police at ., or text messages can be sent to CRIMES (274637), then title DMCS and enter a message.

Tipsters can remain anonymous and earn up to a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or conviction.
