The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Department said it is still trying to determine the identity and number of victims in the crash of a plane Wednesday near Rollins Pass Road in the Arapaho National Forest.
At about 10 p.m., a sheriff’s spokeswoman said the condition of the burned wreckage had made it impossible to immediately identify the aircraft and the number of occupants.
The plane was a single-engine, two-seat aircraft. Investigators don’t know the plane’s origin or intended destination.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will join the investigation tomorrow, ultimately determining the cause of the crash.
Smoke from the crash in remote, unincorporated Gilpin County was reported at about 12:30 p.m. about midway between Nederland and Winter Park.
