FORT CARSON, Colo.—An Army brigade that lost 39 soldiers during a yearlong deployment in Afghanistan is formally marking its return to Fort Carson.

The 4th Brigade Combat Team will honor the fallen soldiers and unfurl its flag in a ceremony Friday at the post outside Colorado Springs.

Eight members of the brigade and three Afghan soldiers were killed in one battle in October when insurgents overran their positions in northeastern Afghanistan.

Names of the dead will be added to Fort Carson’s Global War on Terrorism memorial near the main gate.

Members of the 4th Brigade returned during the spring.

A typical brigade has between 3,000 and 3,600 soldiers, including support units.
