DETROIT — Tigers owner Mike Ilitch said manager Jim Leyland and general manager Dave Dombrowski will return next season.
The owner said he’s “staying with Dave” and “staying with our manager.”
The Tigers fell to 5-18 since the all-star break and 53-56 overall after losing 4-2 to the Angels on Friday night.
Red Sox place Okajima on DL
NEW YORK — The Red Sox placed reliever Hideki Okajima on the disabled list with a strained right hamstring and recalled pitcher Felix Doubront from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Meanwhile, second baseman Dustin Pedroia (broken foot) did some running on the field before batting practice.
“I thought he did great,” manager Terry Francona said. “His intensity was really ramped up. You can still see he’s thinking about it, but I thought he made a lot of improvement, which is great.”
