Though they can’t hit the quarterback, the Broncos’ No. 1 defense did well in the team periods, especially one segment about 45 minutes into practice. Against the Broncos’ No. 1 offense, the defense controlled things upfront against the injury-ravaged offensive line. Robert Ayers popped free for what would have been a sack if full contact had been allowed, and he also dominated a goal-line period. Nose tackle Jamal Williams, right, has shown why opposing offenses have routinely had trouble moving him out of the running lanes. Also, among all starters, wide receiver Eddie Royal signed autographs the longest, staying an hour after practice with pen in hand.
