The search has been suspended for a 61-year-old Carbondale man who has been missing near Redstone since July 30.
The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office has led the search since William Worley was reported missing on Aug. 1.
He was last seen two days earlier around 6:30 p.m. His car was found on the East Creek trailhead on Aug. 3.
The Colorado Army National Guard, Mountain Rescue Aspen and Garfield County Search and Rescue are among the agencies and local groups involved in looking for Worley.
The guard launched a helicopter with a crew from Eagle at about 9:40 a.m.. But the sheriff’s office said in a statement issued Saturday night that the official search was being suspended “due to extreme topography of the entire search area and the thoroughness that the area has been searched.”
The investigation into Worley’s disappearance will continue, the sheriff’s office said, and foul play is not suspected.
The original search area of 50 square miles in Pitkin County had been reduced to 2 square miles.
