GRAND JUNCTION — A police dog in Grand Junction is recovering after a suspect allegedly tried to drown the canine.
The German shepherd named Oldo tracked down Richard Stieb a quarter-mile from a suspected robbery late Wednesday.
Officers say Oldo bit Stieb, 38, and then Stieb grabbed the dog and both rolled into an irrigation canal. An officer jumped on Stieb. A handgun was found near where Stieb had been lying on the ground.
Oldo suffered bruises to his ears, face and neck. Water and rocks were found in his stomach. He’s expected to return to duty today. The Associated Press
