Two teenagers will be in the final group today in the final round of the Colorado Golf Association’s Stroke Play Championship as 16-year-old Wyndham Clark of Cherry Hills Country Club caught 19-year-old Joshua Mathis of Colorado Springs C.C. during Saturday’s third round at Boulder C.C.
Clark, who qualified for the U.S. Amateur earlier in the week, shot a 4-under-par 66 to catch second-round leader Mathis at 7-under 203. Mathis shot a 70 Saturday. The pair has a three-stroke lead over Steve Irwin (69) of Lakewood C.C.
• Former University of Denver golfer Stephanie Sherlock was knocked out of the U.S. Women’s Amateur, losing in the quarterfinals to Jessica Korda of Bradenton, Fla., 4 and 3, at Charlotte (N.C.) Country Club.

Two teams from California went undefeated in the men’s open division and have the upper hand heading into today’s finals of the Wide Open volleyball tour in Breckenridge.
Casey Patterson of Huntington Beach and Ty Loomis of Hermosa Beach won their semifinal Saturday, 19-17 over Fred Souza and Pedro Brazao of Brazil. Patterson and Loomis are seeking their third straight Wide Open tour win. They will face Aaron Wachtfogel of Hermosa Beach and Bill Strickland in the winner’s bracket final. The losers drop to the “contenders” bracket and have another chance to advance to the championship match with a win.
Top seeds Emily Day of Torrance, Calif., and Claire D’Amore, of Oro Valley, Ariz., advanced in the women’s open division, along with Erin Gray of Sugar Grove, Ill., and Kathryn Babcock of Chicago, Heather Lowe of Redondo Beach, Calif., and Tealle Hunkus of El Segundo, Calif., as well as local favorites Ashley Kaneta of Arvada and Christina Shao of Boulder.
Chrabot fourth at Kitzbuehel.
Matt Chrabot of Colorado Springs finished fourth in the triathlon in Kitzbuehel, Austria, the best finish this year by an American in the ITU World Championship Series.
Chrabot covered the Olympic-distance course in one hour, 53 minutes, 35 seconds — 63 seconds behind winner Stuart Hayes of Great Britain and 14 seconds off the podium. Greg Bennett of Boulder was 25th and Matt Reed of Boulder placed 41st.
• Eli Hemming of Kiowa won the youth elite boys division at the USA Junior Triathlon Festival in San Diego, breaking away on the running portion to win in 31:51. Breanna Hemming of Kiowa was fifth in the junior elite female division.
Isabela Krueck of Englewood won the girls 7-8 age group.
