CAÑON CITY — Regulators considering artist Christo’s proposed piece above the Arkansas River are giving the public 15 more days to weigh in.

Supporters and opponents now have until Sept. 13 to submit comments.

The Bureau of Land Management said Monday it received “a number” of requests to extend the 45-day comment period on its 1,400-page draft environmental impact statement for Christo’s project.

Christo wants to suspend large fabric panels over eight spots on a 42-mile stretch of the river for two weeks, using nearly 6 miles of fabric. He first proposed the project 13 years ago.

The BLM’s draft report lists possible alternate versions that would shrink or block it. Christo’s team is among those who have yet to submit comments.
