RTD’s board of directors voted Tuesday night to support a package of deficit-reduction measures, including an across-the-board fare increase that would go into effect Jan. 1 and transit service reductions next year to save $2 million for the agency.

To also help eliminate a projected $12 million deficit next year, directors supported a move to take $2 million from the agency’s operating reserve. Over the next six weeks, the Regional Transportation District will hold public hearings on the proposed fare increase, which would hike the local regular cash fare from $2 to $2.25. The board is expected to take a final vote on the package in October.
