GRAND JUNCTION — After 20 years on the force, 18 as a K-9 dog handler, Grand Junction Police Officer Geraldine Earthman says among those who serve and protect, there is no stronger bond than between partners.

So it’s not a surprise that when Earthman’s partner for the past three years was nearly killed, she and her fellow officers didn’t hesitate to risk their lives to save him.

His name is Oldo and he’s one of three Grand Junction Police dogs. Oldo was recently tracking a suspect leading Earthman on a lead by about 30 feet.

The team caught up with the suspect, who was armed, and ordered him to lie down. When he didn’t, Oldo was sent in.

One week after nearly dying, Oldo was back on the job, focused and ready for action.
