BOULDER, Colo.—The University of Colorado is one of eight universities and other institutions chosen to be part of a new center focusing on commercial space travel, launch operations and space commerce.
The Federal Aviation Administration Thursday announced the selection of CU-Boulder to participate in the Center of Excellence for Commercial Space Transportation. The FAA’s Office of Commercial Space Transportation is responsible for licensing, regulating and promoting the commercial space industry.
Aerospace engineering sciences professor David Klaus will be the principal investigator for CU’s portion of the federally funded project. He is a former launch controller for the space shuttle program.
CU’s contribution to the program will include a graduate student, undergraduate student and a new faculty member.
