Steve Miller, the associate head hockey coach at the University of Denver, interviewed Thursday for the head-coaching job for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League.
The USHL is the premier junior-A development league in North America, and where Miller has recruited for DU in his 16 years at the school. Miller, 44, has served as George Gwozdecky’s top assistant and recruiting coordinator since they arrived at Denver together in 1994.
Miller and former Colorado College captain Eric Rud are finalists for the Green Bay job. Rud is an assistant coach for St. Cloud (Minn.) State.
Miller was born in Madison, Wis., and grew up in Sun Prairie, which is about a two-hour drive from Green Bay.
The Gamblers, behind coach Jon Cooper, went 45-10-5 in the regular season last year and won the Clark Cup as league champion. Cooper became the head coach of the American Hockey League’s Norfolk Admirals on Aug. 9.
Miller declined comment but said he is returning to Denver tonight and will rejoin DU’s inaugural Alumni Pro Camp on Friday at the Ritchie Center.
