The man who was critically injured in a 100-foot fall in Boulder Canyon on Tuesday night was identified Wednesday as Andrew Tysinger, 23, an up-and-coming singer-songwriter who recently moved to Colorado to pursue his passions for music and climbing.

Tysinger was attempting to show his girlfriend how to rappel on the “Boulderado” crag at about 8:25 p.m. Tuesday but was not properly fastened to his rope, rescuers said. He fell from the top of the ridge.

Dave Booton, emergency services supervisor for the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, said a faulty belay device on the harness Tysinger was wearing might have been to blame for the fall.
