Englewood and Littleton firefighters extinguished a blaze early this morning at a duplex after searching for someone believed to be still in the basement.
A total of 32 firefighters from Englewood and Littleton fought the fire that started around 4:15 a.m.
When crews arrived at 2878 S. Sherman St. a tenant told firefighters that someone was still inside the basement.
But after firefighters searched the basement and didn’t find anyone, they later learned that the person had safely left the duplex, said Assistant Fire Marshal Marla Wilcox of the Englewood Fire Department.
The fire caused extensive structural damage to the north side of the duplex.
The cause of fire is under investigation.
