Getting your player ready...

Sometimes, young players just need to play. Case in point: Eric Young Jr., who has developed better instincts as a base-stealer in the past year. Young, the fastest player in franchise history, was picked off or gunned down four times in eight attempts in 2009. He is 8-for-9 this season, with the latest steal leading to the only run Sunday. D-backs catcher John Hester couldn’t have gotten a better pitch — waist high on the outside part of the plate — but couldn’t catch Young in the eighth inning because of the great break Young got against reliever Aaron Heilman.

Oh, so close.

Rockies-Diamondbacks games are best viewed from the edge of your seat. The teams have played 12 games, and eight have been decided by one run, including five out of six at Arizona.

Still waiting.

Doesn’t seem possible, but the Rockies will go into September without a winning road trip. Their 2-4 trip to Los Angeles and Arizona gave them a 0-8-2 record for their 10 trips.
