Eleven high-powered women have been designated Women of Distinction for 2010 by Girl Scouts of Colorado, so what better place to have the introductory reception than an event space in one of Denver’s tallest buildings?

The Sky Club at Spire was the setting for this early-evening get-together that also launched ticket sales for an Oct. 14 event built around Forever Green, the organization’s environmental initiative.

Co-chairs John Ikard, president/CEO of FirstBank Holding Co., and Elbra Wedgeworth, chief government and community relations officer for Denver Health and a 2004 Woman of Distinction, said it will begin at 5 p.m. at the Marriott Center and that tickets can be purchased from Jeanne Hughes, 303-607-4833.

The 2010 Women of Distinction are:

Christine Benero, president and chief executive officer of Mile High United Way; state Sen. Joyce Foster; community volunteers Marjorie Gart and Lynda Mallinoff Goldstein; Carolyn Jefferson-Jenkins, executive director/learning services for the Douglas County School District; and Rebecca Kirchdorfer, co-owner of Downing Street Garage.

Also, 7News anchor Theresa Marchetta; Denver City Councilwoman Judy Montero; Patricia Olson, president and chief executive officer of the Morris Animal Foundation; dermatologist Barbara Reed; and Erin Yoshimura, executive director of the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival.

The Women of Distinction program has raised $2 million for Girl Scouts of Colorado since its start 14 years ago.

Also of note.

After 13 years as owner/director of Petit Ballet School, Loretta Kelce has turned over the day-to-day operations to her daughter, Natalie. Natalie, 26, has degrees in English and creative writing from CU-Boulder and has studied dance with Colorado Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Boston Ballet and the Royal Ballet in London. … Three Denver high-school students — Katherine Lowe and Colin Wells of East and David Kolet-Mandrikov of George Washington — were among the 120 who completed the seven-week Rising Sun International Student Leadership Program in Rhinebeck, N.Y. … The Office Depot Foundation has given 2,000 backpacks to six area organizations to distribute to students that they serve: Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, SafeHouse Denver, Denver Public Schools, Metro Denver Partners, Denver Children’s Home and Denver Area Youth Services. … Celeste Jackson has left the Denver Public Library, where she had been public information officer for nearly a decade, to become communications director for the Colorado Children’s Immunization Coalition.
