Jhoulys Chacin isn’t just retiring hitters. As often as not, he’s dominating them. Six days after pitching 7 2/3 shutout innings at Arizona, Chacin allowed one run in seven innings vs. the Dodgers. And he struck out seven, giving him 109 strikeouts in 102 innings. His 9.62 strikeouts per nine innings is the highest among major-league rookies with at least 80 innings pitched.
Tulo heating up.
Troy Tulowitzki singled home the tying run in the fourth inning. Nothing unusual there. Tulo went into the game hitting .356 (31-for-87) in August with monthly highs in RBIs (15), hits (31) and on-base percentage (.420).
E.Y. on the fly.
Dodgers catcher Rod Barajas never had a chance. Not when Chad Billingsley threw a curveball with Eric Young Jr. running in the fifth. Young easily stole his 11th base, his sixth in 13 games since being recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
