ALAMOSA — Trevor Eggleston threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to lead Adams State to a 34-14 win over Dixie (Utah) State at Rex Stadium.
The Grizzlies (1-0) racked up 576 yards of total offense as they picked up a season-opening win for the first time since 2006. It also was the Grizzlies’ first nonconference victory since 2006.
Shane McBurney had 150 yards receiving and sophomore Scott Kellogg added 114, while Terjean Saffold ran for 101 yards.
The Grizzly defense held the Red Storm (0-1) to 23 yards on the ground, and safety James Ackel scored on a 31-yard interception return.
Washburn 34, Colorado Mines 29
GOLDEN — Clay Garcia threw four touchdown passes and had 314 yards passing, but it wasn’t enough as the Orediggers (0-1) fell to Washburn (Kan.) University.
The Ichabods (1-0), who were ranked No. 10 in the preseason coaches’ top 25 poll, had 311 yards rushing, while Mines managed just 9.

GOODWELL, Okla. — The ThunderWolves (1-0) scored 21 first-quarter points, led by running back Jesse Lewis, who rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns, to defeat the Aggies (0-1).
Fort Hays State 45, Western State 20
HAYS, Kan. — In his first collegiate start, junior quarterback Miles Gorham passed for 218 yards and two touchdowns, but Gorham’s Mountaineers (0-1) fell to Fort Hays State (1-0).
