GLENWOOD SPRINGS — A 9-month- old New Castle boy died in a car accident on Interstate 70 on Sunday after he was ejected from his car seat.
Colorado State Patrol investigators believe the parents placed him in the baby seat without buckling the straps around him.
The boy’s mother was driving westbound at about 6:30 a.m. when she lost control, hit the center median and rolled the car several times. The infant was identified as Issac Alessandro. His mother, Joanne Echeverria, 19, was wearing her seat belt and was hospitalized with unknown injuries.
The cause is still under investigation, but authorities said alcohol and drugs were not involved.
