The first of 12 Global Positioning System IIF satellites that Boeing Co. is building for the U.S. Air Force has entered service. Air Force officials said on-orbit testing shows the satellite meets all requirements.
A Boeing space-vehicle-operations team based in Colorado helped the Air Force monitor and evaluate test results.
Satellite control was transferred Monday to the Air Force 50th Space Wing and the 2nd Space Operations Squadron based at Schriever Air Force Base.
