Colorado Springs police sent the bomb squad to the Academy for Advanced and Creative Learning for a suspicious package that ended up being simply part of a science project.
CSPD spokesman Lt. Pat Rigdon said District 11 security called police to the school at 2510 N. Chestnut St. at about 6 a.m. today to investigate the package found outside the school.
The bomb squad arrived about 7:30 a.m. and a teacher clarified the situation.
“Apparently, it was supposed to be a reproduction of some explosive device,” Rigdon said, describing the package as a box with a cylinder inside it and foam insulation coming out.
