Perry Arthur of Plano, Texas, fired a 6-under-par 66 in the final round Friday to win the Colorado Senior Open at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club by one stroke.
Arthur, who won $8,500, had six birdies. Second-round leader Bob Niger of El Dorado Hills, Calif., was the runner-up. Niger had a 15-foot birdie putt to tie on the 18th, but he left the attempt inches short.
Sean Forey of Morrison was the tournament’s low amateur. Forey shot a 3-over 75 on Friday and finished with a three-round, 5-over 221. He also was the low amateur in 2008.
The most notable amateur in the field, former Broncos quarterback John Elway, opened Friday with birdies on two of his first three holes but struggled the rest of the round and finished with a 9-over 81.
Elway tied for 52nd with a 13-over 229.
