GOLDEN, Colo.—A police officer’s wife who is accused of eliciting sympathy and raising $60,000 in donations by lying about being diagnosed with cancer has made a brief appearance in court.
Thirty-one-year-old Ann Crall of Highlands Ranch was in Jefferson County court Friday to hear the charges against her. She faces six counts of theft, and one count each of charitable fraud and forgery.
Prosecutors say Crall lied about having cancer for four years and used the money for her prescription drug habit. She’s accused of forging medical documents.
Denver’s KUSA-TV reports that the judge denied a request by Crall’s attorney, Kevin Ellman, to reduce her $25,000 bail. Crall’s next court hearing is Sept. 30.
