COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Cheyenne Mountain High School plans to begin voluntary drug testing later this month.
The Gazette of Colorado Springs reports the voluntary program would subject athletes or students who drive to school to disciplinary actions. School officials would recommend counseling to other students who test positive, but would not require it.
Superintendent Walt Cooper says at least 27 of the 1,400 students at the school have signed up. School officials are hoping for 50 students.
At least one parent attending a meeting Wednesday expressed concern over sanctions only for some students.
The plan comes two years police arrested former students after uncovering a “significant” heroin problem at the school.
