Getting your player ready...

When the subject is the National League Triple Crown race, three names enter the equation: Joey Votto, Albert Pujols and Carlos Gonzalez.

Omar Infante? He won’t win the Triple Crown, but he could keep one of the above from winning it.

Infante is hitting .339, one point behind Gonzalez going into Tuesday night’s games, but had only 402 plate appearances, meaning he would have to average 4.3 per game in the Braves’ final 23 games to be recognized among the league leaders. If he doesn’t get there, the league would assign him an out for every plate appearance he was short of the requisite 502. So, for instance, if he finished at 497, he would be credited with five outs and if his average was still ahead of everyone in the league, he would be declared the batting champion.
