About 400 people gathered Saturday night to raise money to fight a rare blood disease.

“Who is amy?” is a nonprofit organization trying to raise awareness of amyloidosis.

Amyloidosis is a rare disease in which a protein called amyloid accumulates in various tissues and organs, impairing normal function.

Saturday night’s “Who is amy?” gala, at Casselman’s at 2620 Walnut Street, included a silent auction, appetizers, cocktails and deserts.

Dr. Marina Ramirez-Alvarado from the Mayo Clinic discussed the disease and Dr. Jeffrey Matous of the Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers was honored for his efforts in the fight against amyloidosis.
