President Barack Obama on Monday lauded hundreds of student-athletes for their championship performances on and off the field. About 650 students, along with their coaches and staff, gathered on the South Lawn of the White House. Among those receiving accolades was the University of Denver championship ski team.
“It was great,” Pioneers nordic coach Dave Stewart said. “The president gave a great speech, and it was great being there. It’s probably one of the highlights of our students’ careers, to get to meet the president at the White House.”
Stewart confirmed senior Zach Slater was in attendance, but there was no word on whether the senior scored a pass for his buddy Screech.
