The Rockies knew it was a tradeout: Eric Young Jr.’s offense for Clint Barmes’ defense. Young has shown promise in the leadoff spot. But he committed two errors Tuesday night against the Padres at Coors Field, both on groundballs, giving him six in 41 games. Barmes, whose .132 batting average in August cost him his everyday job at second base, has eight errors in 126 games.

Smith struggling.

Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki have had to carry the Rockies’ offense, in part because Seth Smith’s bat has slowed down. Smith hit .299 in May, .295 in June and .311 in July, but he’s at .151 since Aug. 1 after Tuesday’s 0-for-4.

Streaking.

OK, so back-to-back wins isn’t much of a winning streak. But Tuesday marked the first time all season that the Padres had won two straight over the Rockies.
