Getting your player ready...

INDIANAPOLIS — Last week, Colts safety Bob Sanders said he was as healthy as he’s ever been. Now, he’s going to be sidelined indefinitely.

The 2007 NFL defensive player of the year had surgery Wednesday to repair a torn biceps muscle in his right arm, an injury that could end his season. Team officials are not saying how much time Sanders could miss. The team said it would “monitor” Sanders’ rehabilitation before making any additional decision.

“It’s way too early to say that he’s definitely done for the season,” team owner Jim Irsay said.

Melvin Bullitt is expected to rejoin the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Giants.

Hill to replace ailing Stafford

ALLEN PARK, Mich. — The Lions will start Shaun Hill at quarterback in Sunday’s home opener against Philadelphia as Matthew Stafford recovers from a shoulder injury.

Coach Jim Schwartz didn’t say when Stafford might play again.

“We’re going to start Shaun Hill at quarterback on Sunday, and then after that we’ll see what happens,” Schwartz said.

Injured ankle dogs Delhomme

BEREA, Ohio — Browns quarterback Jake Delhomme did not practice and his playing status for Sunday’s home opener against Kansas City will depend on how quickly he recovers from the first ankle injury of his 12-year NFL career.

“I have an ankle that’s bothering me, and I’ll just kind of leave it at that,” Delhomme said. “I’m a big believer in what’s said in the training room stays in the training room.”

If Delhomme can’t play, the Browns will start Seneca Wallace, who is 5-9 as a starter.

Kolb, Bradley remain questionable

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles coach Andy Reid said quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley are making progress, though neither has passed the next phase of their concussion testing.

Reid wouldn’t rule either player out for Sunday’s game against Detroit, but it would seem unlikely they could play.
