A pickup ran off Evergreen Parkway and rolled over into a baseball field’s backstop late Thursday afternoon, as children played only 40 feet away, authorities said.

None of the children was hurt, but the driver was taken to St. Anthony Central Hospital in Denver, according to Evergreen Fire Rescue, adding that his injuries were minor.

The fire department said a metal pole kept the truck from spilling on to the field. The crash happened about 5:30 p.m. at the community park in the 3100 block of El Pinal Drive.

The fire department quoted an unnamed parent as saying, “It was a miracle that none of the children were injured in the accident as there was a batter only a few feet from the backstop when the truck hit.”
