A Fort Carson major who worked as a U.S. Army contracting officer in Afghanistan and Iraq has been charged with accepting bribes from two foreign nationals whose companies were awarded contracts.

Roderick D. Sanchez of Fountain was charged in U.S. District Court in Denver Tuesday with one count of bribery of a public official. If convicted, Sanchez could face up to 15 years in prison plus a $250,000 fine.

Federal prosecutors are also seeking a court order that would require Sanchez to forfeit property, including two Rolex Oyster Perpetual wristwatches, property in Cotopaxi, a 1986 camper, a 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, and a 2000 Dodge Ram truck.

Sanchez’ lawyer declined to comment.

According to court documents, Sanchez was deployed as an Army contracting officer in Afghanistan from March to October 2002; in Tikrit, Iraq, from January to May 2004; in Kuwait from January to April 2005; and in Taji, Iraq, from February to August 2007.
