Sure, everything has to be bigger in Texas, but $60 million for a high school football stadium?

The folks in Allen, Texas, broke ground Thursday on their 18,000-seat stadium northeast of Dallas. It will be the fifth-largest high school stadium in the state.

Voters in 2009 approved a $119 million bond package that included the stadium, to be finished by mid-2012.

The Dallas Morning News reports Allen Eagle Stadium will include a two-tier press box and a video scoreboard, plus an indoor area for golf practice.

While there are not any high school stadiums in Colorado near that size, when Folsom Field opened in 1924 on the CU campus, it cost $65,000 for the 26,000-seat venue. Colorado State’s Hughes Stadium cost about $3 million when it opened in 1968 with 30,000 seats.
