A pickup truck ran off Evergreen Parkway and rolled over into a baseball field’s backstop late this afternoon, as children played only 40 feet away, authorities said.

None of the children were hurt, but the driver was taken to St. Anthony Center Hospital in Denver, according to Evergreen Fire Rescue, adding that his injuries were minor.

The fire department stated that a metal pole kept the truck from spilling onto the field where the children were playing.

The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. at the community park in the 3100 block of El Pinal Drive.

The cause is under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol.

In a media release, the fire department quoted an unnamed parent as saying, “It was a miracle that none of the children were injured in the accident as there was a batter only a few feet from the backstop when the truck hit.”
