Getting your player ready...

Troy Tulowitzki doesn’t have a vote for baseball’s postseason awards. But he has an opinion. And he believes pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez or outfielder Carlos Gonzalez — or both — should walk away with significant hardware.

“I play this game to make the playoffs, and if you don’t, you’re going to be disappointed. But at the same time, if one of these guys doesn’t win the Cy Young, doesn’t win the MVP, I’ll be disappointed with that as well,” Tulowitzki said.

“If you want to say that it’s an offensive park, then you’re handing the Cy Young to Ubaldo for me. If you want to say, well, pitchers can start to pitch here, well then that proves the case for CarGo.”

Jimenez makes his most important start this season tonight against the Dodgers. He has struggled against Los Angeles in his career, going 5-5 with a 5.23 ERA. Jimenez shrugs off talk that he’s tired.

He has adjusted his between-start routines to have more energy. He is no longer running for an hour the morning after his outings, abbreviating it to 40 minutes on a treadmill.

“I feel good. All I am focusing on is winning for my team,” Jimenez said. “We have put ourselves in a good spot.”

Footnote.

Reliever Matt Belisle, on not pitching Wednesday: “It helps, but we also want to keep rolling. I was ready, but that’s their call. They know we’re all ready. They’ve been spectacular at managing the bullpen this year. We want the ball and we want to win.”
