NORMAN, OKLA. — Seventh-ranked Oklahoma turned to the passing arm of quarterback Landry Jones and a stingy defense to turn back Air Force 27-24 today in Memorial Stadium.

The Sooners (3-0) broke away from a tie at 10 early in the second half and led 27-10 by the end of the third period. But the Falcons weren’t done.

Air Force quarterback Tim Jefferson rallied his team in the fourth quarter, and fullback Jared Tew scored a touchdown on a 5-yard run to cut Oklahoma’s lead to 27-17 heading into the last 10 minutes.

A 15-yard scoring run by Air Force’s Kyle Halderman with 3:39 left in the game cut Oklahoma’s lead to 27-24.

Jones spread around Oklahoma’s offense between receiver Ryan Broyles and running back DeMarco Murray. The combination gave the Falcons too many avenues to cover and the Sooners had their 33d straight home-field victory.

After the Falcons, 2-1, got a breath by driving 80 yards with the second half kickoff to tie the score at 10 on Jefferson’s 37-yard run, Jones and Co. riddled the Falcons.

Jones took the Sooners to a 17-10 lead on a two-play, 41-yard drive. The Sooners scored 10 more points before the quarter ended.
