Colorado’s Lizzy Herzl was named Big 12 Conference co-newcomer of the week, and freshman Alex Dohm was named to the CollegeSoccer360.com prime-time performer-of-the-week team following their efforts in the 1-0 double-overtime win over No. 10 UCLA in the Omni Hotels Colorado Soccer Classic on Sunday.

Herzl, a freshman, entered the game at the start of the first overtime period at forward, a position she had never played while at Colorado. Her role was to add some speed to the offense, but she went above and beyond as she surprised everyone and scored the game-winner on the first shot she attempted this season to clinch the win over the Bruins.

Dohm’s role during the game against UCLA was to defend the Bruins’ leading scorer, Sydney Leroux. The pressure she put on Leroux limited the All-America standout to only two shots on goal in 108 minutes.

Dohm is only the second player in the history of the program to earn a prime-time performer- of-the-week honor. Former standout Nikki Marshall earned the same recognition Oct. 14, 2009.

DU’s Hamilton named player of the week.

Denver women’s soccer freshman forward Kristen Hamilton (Littleton) was named Sun Belt Conference player of the week.

Hamilton scored her second game-winning goal in the past three games Sunday as the Pioneers defeated Purdue 2-1. After her first goal tied the game at 1-1 with 80 seconds to play, Hamilton scored the game-winner at the buzzer.

Sullivan, Bissau named RMAC players of week.

Chike Sullivan of Colorado School of Mines and Metro State’s Issa Bissau have been named offensive and defensive soccer players of the week by the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Sullivan, a junior midfielder from San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago (St. George’s College), tallied a goal and three assists in Mines’ two matches last week.

For the second consecutive week, Roadrunner Bissau has the RMAC award for defensive player of the week. In four starts this season — the first four starts of his career — the sophomore goalkeeper has four shutout victories and has made nine saves.
