BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett plans to announce whether charges will be filed against the person suspected of starting Colorado’s costliest blaze.

The Fourmile Canyon fire started on Labor Day and spread through the canyons west of Boulder, destroying at least 166 homes and causing an estimated $217 million in damage.

Investigators say the fire was started by embers from a fire pit at the home of a volunteer firefighter.
