BOULDER, Colo.—Some 500 prairie dogs in Boulder are about to get evicted from a city park and open space land.
The city says it will start a relocation project Friday to move the critters. First, the city plans to douse a 39-acre area with insecticide to kill potentially plague-bearing fleas.
Boulder says it’ll take a month to relocate the prairie dogs away from the park. A relocation site has not been chosen.
Wildlife officers say the prairie dogs near Foothills Community Park are hurting park turf and landscaping.
Officials say the relocation will be humane and won’t hurt the dogs. Park visitors will be warned about the insecticide.
