A man suspected in an early morning shooting on the Colorado State University campus on Sept. 8 was arrested at 2 a.m. today at a Fort Collins motel.

The man, Shameek Jamal Bernard Lewis, 20, of Aurora, was arrested at the Motel 6 on Mulberry Road near Interstate 25, according to Dell Rae Moellenberg, spokeswoman for the CSU police department.

Lewis was arrested by CSU and Fort Collins police with the assistance of the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office on an arrest warrant charging him with attempted first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery, according to Moellenberg.

Lewis, who is not a CSU student or employee, is suspected of shooting Johnnie Bradley Fresquez, 21, of Broomfield, in a parking lot on the far southwestern edge of the campus shortly after midnight on Sept. 8.

Fresquez, who also is not a CSU student or employee, drove to Broomfield and reported the incident to police there.

Moellenberg said that while neither Lewis or Fresquez is connected to CSU, police believe they picked a location on campus for a drug transaction.
